Apple Pickin Time

For many years while my children were young each fall we would pack a lunch and go to a u-pick orchard and spend the afternoon. As the years sped by most of the close orchards closed to u-pick and we have never taken our grandchildren. Saturday dawned bright and clear but a little chilly so we gathered as many of the family as we could, Nina (me), Poppy, 2 daughters, 1 SIL, 1 DIL and 5 granddaughters. We drove for almost an hour to Platte City, MO.

It was worth the drive. The apples were beautiful.

Some of us did more eating than picking.

Most of the apples were high in the trees as the orchard had already been well picked. But the girls thought it was fun to use the pickers.

My youngest daughter does her share.

I had to help my youngest granddaughter as the picker was hard for her to use.

Finally we had the apples we wanted to pick.

So we played with the baby goats.

My oldest daughter sat on the steps and just enjoyed the day.

Poppy and middle granddaughter danced to the country and western music playing on the loudspeaker much to her embarrassment. But she did it to please him. And I hope someday she will have good memories of this when he can no longer dance.

Both daughters enjoyed the glider in this beautiful gazebo.

All five granddaughters were gracious enough to do a photo shoot among the pumpkins for sale.

We toured the gift shop.

And at the end of the day the tasty reward for our day of fun. Thanks for joining us.

Great photos.... We don't have apple orchards around here (northerly Alberta, Canada) but I visited one once in Quebec. Your photos reminded me of that time --- it was so much fun to pick your own!!

We do have 1 little apple tree that supplies us with sweet apples for sauce and pies. But no orchards.

Your pies look deee-lish too!

Thanks for stopping by my place and leaving your 'footprint' in the comment box. Lovely to 'meet' you!

Stella ~ TY for sharing about your Father on my post. Someday do a post on him & his military session.

I love your family pics, everyone had a grand time ... so visible. I do hope the wee one remembers dancing with her G'pa under the open skies ... how adorable, memories to cherish close to the heart. We treasure our family events of togetherness for events like this, too.

Have a lovely autumn week. TTFN ~ Marydon

I don't want to sound too sappy, but I teared up reading this post and looking at the photos, especially the part where your granddaughter is dancing with her Poppy. You came home with plenty of apples and you certainly have all the love anyone could ask for. Congratulations on a family well done!

I love days like this Stella. We go berry picking in the summer. It's not too far from my mum's and they have all kinds of berries plus cherries. After we have picked we usually go into the cafe and have fresh berry milk shakes made with real cows milk, they are so delicious, all thick and creamy.
Your photos are absolutely delightful and the young girls all look so happy to be spending time with their grandparents...what beautiful memories you have made together.
Beautiful post!
Warmest hugs,
Sandi

What a great time it looks like you had picking apples. It really made me nostalgic for when we would go fruit picking in my younger days. I really need to plant some apple trees I think.

Stella, it is so nice to see you comment so I could find you, sugar! Nice to meet ya, chickee! Yep, some of us eat more than pick apples. Be sure and see the post on saturday for a chance to win a prize. I think you'll like it. But I am just so thrilled that you dropped by and especially for the comment.

Sweet family you have but my hubby would love that train on the barn because he's a model railroader enthusiast and love them, along with John Deere tractors also! LOL LOL

xoxo,
Connie

Hi Stella,

One of my favorite excursions as a child was to the orchards to pick apples! Thanks for the memories.
