Thrifting

Look at what I found. All this pretty red and a round mirror too. It's all my friend's fault.

I haven't made time to go seriously thrifting for a long time. So Sunday I called my friend M. We have been friends and best thrifters for over 40 years.
Hey M, turn around so my friends can see you.
She gets so involved in her search you know.

You may be hearing more from her soon I think we may have a new blogger here. She has been reading my blog and spent an entire evening blog hopping. Sound familiar. AND THEN, she said I think I have an idea for a blog name. I'll let you know as soon as she makes the leap.

So anyway, back to the subject. I found so many great things. First this silver bowl/candlestick? It is very heavy silver and has such lovely detail on the handles. I need some ideas about what to put in the bowl after I get candles in it. Flowers maybe or candy hearts for Valentine's Day?

Found this red and white doily I thought would look great with my Valentine decorations. It has little curly piggy tails now but once I starch and iron it I think it will lay nicely.

Remember the red votives that Home Interiors had back in the what 70's or 80's. I decided to start hunting for some as at Christmas some of my candles dripped on my tablecloth and one even on to the carpet. OK, I should have been paying attention. But thought these votives would do the trick. Now I can sit and yak and not worry about the candles.

Also found 6 ruby red sherbert dishes. I thought they would be fun for ice cream or putting candy and nuts out for guests.

Take a look at the two set of old drawers I found. I am going to put them in my sewing room to hold all the little things and maybe some of my thread which is now in a big pickle jar. They are kind of an ugly brown with green paint showing thru. Don't know if I will leave them as they are or perhaps paint them cream and put on glass knobs. What do you think?
Have to run now and clean up my treasurers so I can play with them. Hope you have fun hunting too.

Oh you found some wonderful treasures! Don't you just love that?
I like the idea of putting candy hearts in the silver bowl.
I love the sherbert dishes, I have a few and we use them all the time. Much nicer for dessert than a cereal bowl!
I think the sewing drawers would look very pretty painted cream with glass knobs.
Enjoy your treasures and encourage your friend to start a blog! :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. I love your items. I've always been a lover of red glass ware but never had any. I think your idea on the drawer refinish will look great. Be sure and show us when done :o)

HI Stella, thankyou so much for dropping in. I love your ruby glassware! Lovely find. Had a quick look at some of your previous posts - the lights under the snow are magical! Its summer here but it is a mild day today. Had rain the last few days, We never see snow like you have there although we did have flurries last winter for about an hour though it melted as soon as it hit the ground. Very exiting for us who never see snow in winter except up on the ski slopes.

The red sherbert dishes are my fav. And I sure do remember those Home Interior red votives from the 1970's. I think I had them in green, too.

Be sure to let us know when your friend publishes her first blog post.

I love thrifting -- both buying and selling. Ruby red glass is among my favorites. The key to my prowling is the word "thrift". I look for bargains. That store you are in looks a little pricey for my taste. Was it expensive or thrifty?

LOoks like you had a great day thrifting! (Where in KC did you go to shop?)
I have a couple of those old sewing machine drawers. I keep vintage playing cards in one and a handful of old snapshots in the other.

I love thrifting and now I'll have more time to do it--I'm retiring in about a week and a half....I'm so looking forward to a new phase of my life. I'll even have more time to excercise! Love your new finds. The red would go so nice in my home!

Great thrifting!
I love all your finds!
But I think my favorite has to be the little drawers! Treasure for sure! And I have a weakness for doilies and your red find is a beauty (and I love the 'curly tails', I think they look endearing! It sort of adds to it's charm.)!

And how nice to have your friend start blogging!
All the best,
Eileen

Stella, YES, I can tell you know exactly how I feel. And thank you for the reminder and I DO count my blessings. There have been times that I have wondered where my blessings went, but they are right there in front of me growing gray!

I am missing out on decorating for Valentines Day. Everything is covered with plastic and I won't be able to bring things in or decorate because the carpet should be here between the 9th and 16th of February. So...I ooohed and ahhhhed over your cuties. I won't miss Easter though, you can count on it! :) My moss green carpet and pale golden walls should look nice with Easter pretties. Can't wait!

Thank you for stopping by. I play Stella by Starlight on the piano. You are the very first Stella I have known so will think of you the next time I play it and your sweet little hearts on display..
Tell your friend we would be happy to have her join us! :)

What fabulous finds you collected! I have red votives and wondered why I have not put them out for Valentines Day. I do believe I need to do just that :-).
