Ice Cream

As a treat for my granddaughter's birthdays I always take them shopping and then to lunch. For lunch they can have anything they choose. My youngest granddaughter just turned six and she chose to have french toast, bacon, sprite, and an ice cream sundae.

I was amused as I watched her dig with glee into this mountain of ice cream. She enjoyed so much just watching it drip from her spoon. I remember all the times I told her mother "just eat your food, don't play with it". As I get older I think perhaps we are missing part of the experience of eating when we don't use all of our senses to enjoy our food. After all what harm does it really do to, touch it, smell it, or listen to the sound it makes as it plops back in the dish. Perhaps Miss Emily who wrote the book of manners back in 1819 can tell me why. As a grandmother I see no reason why not!

Oh yummy, big bites are so much fun.

Wow! good to the very last spoonful

So I hope you will enjoy not just your ice cream but all life has to offer with all your senses. I don't care what Miss Emily says. Go ahead! color outside the lines, let your ice cream drip from the spoon just to hear the plop, sit and listen to the birds even if your late for your dentist appointment. Live life to it's fullest!

Oh my gosh - you have it - me too -it's the wonderful freedom you earn when you grow up.

Life has to have some fun and freedom in it - it's not all rules.

I don't think you realize it until you become our age!

Love,
Sandie

Stella I just love this post! We always took our three now-grown grandchildren shopping for the day as a birthday celebration. And with their choice of lunch included. Great memories for us and each of them have told us the same thing as well. Wish I had pictures of those days!

Hi, Stella,
I am with you. Let them enjoy their food to the fullest. Have you noticed as we become grandparents the rules we had for our children become a lot less important with these grandchildren? Your granddaughter is a sweetheart, and I so enjoyed her eating that sundae. Have a beautiful weekend, my friend! Vicki p.s. I am glad you are starting to see those pretty daffodils popping up!

I think sometimes Moms are so frazzled and overwhelmed by everything that needs to be done that they don't have time to enjoy some of these childhood moments. But Grandparents can. :-) So glad you have these special times with your grandchildren.

Stella, thank you so much for saying that! My flower beds are not really the kind to brag about or to put on a meme..but at least I am taking part. :) It just made me feel good that you seemed to know how I feel. You are so sweet!
You little granddaughter is adorable!

Perfect and precious celebrations for you and your granddaughters. Yes we do indulge our grand children more than we did our children. I still say I was right to make my son stop hanging melted mozzarella cheese out of his nose in the restaurant after a fake sneeze.
