It's Called Progress

I am sure the city calls it progress, but I, call it a mess. For the past four months this sign has been posted just to the east of our home. Each morning at 6:00 a.m. the machines begin to snort, roar, gouge and pound.

The city in it's wisdom has decided that our quiet street would make a great access to the freeway for an on and off ramp.

The have taken up all the blacktop and are widening the road to four lanes.
Previously we had a sidewalk just on the east side of our property that has an orchard. They have dug up most of it for some unknown reason.

The area directly in front of our house was all grass. If you look closely you
can see a stake in the background. This is the right of way we had to agree to give them as working space. As you can see the workmen curved around my wheel barrow flower bed and left it intact. I don't know if will remain as it looks like they are ready to lay a sidewalk across this area. It seems my flowers will probably be in the way of the sidewalk. I am waiting for that knock on the door.
Because I knew I might have to move the wheelbarrow I didn't even bother to paint it this year.

But until that day come I will continue to enjoy my flowers and thank the workman who cared enough about flowers to leave my bed intact. for at leasst the time being. Things change.

What a sweet kind hearted worker to go around your wheel barrow ... it will be even lovelier when you do move it to a new location to enjoy ... change can be beautiful.

Have a lovely weekend.

Oh Stella, that's awful! I hope for your sake that they get done soon. Can you dig up the whole clump of flowers and transplant them? They are so pretty.

Hi Stella, thanks for stopping by my blog this afternoon. My grandma's name was Stella. Such a beautiful name. Sorry to hear about the disruption of your street. Have a great evening!

That is kind of sad I have to admit. I wonder how much traffic you will have now that is it going to be a ramp - right in the middle of the neighborhood?

Kind of weird. But your flowers are beautiful!

Oh dear! I'm sorry your quiet little neighborhood is going through such upheaval. It's happening in several area's of our city too. People compaind so much about a train that stops on the tracks for 15 minutes at a time that the city decided to build an underpass, and close the entire road...for a year! The problem is it's one of only three roads in town that cross the river. Kind of makes the 15 minute wait not seem so bad. Ah progress!

I hope your landscape isn't disturbed too much! Your little wheelbarrow rock garden is so cute!
Hugs,
Dawn

Oh I am so sorry for the disruption -- I wouldn't call it progress either.

You know Stella, although I can see both sides (yours and the city's), I really hate that the city can force people to give up part of their property to them in the name of progress. In my humble opinion, beauty and peace should go before progress!

Wow - don't know what to say about your city's street work. If it were in front of my house - I might be optimistic 'cause we never get any kind of city improvements but what we do get takes F-O-R-E-V-E-R to finish. Hopefully that's not the case for you!!! I love love love the wheelbarrow garden. Such a clever idea!! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog!!
